Hervey Bay has some of the most placid waters you will find anywhere on the east coast of Australia. Every one of Hervey Bay's beaches is protected from high winds and big swells by Fraser Island and that means that the the Hervey Bay beaches are safe for families with small children.

Whether you want to swim - even in winter - fish or just kick back and catch a few rays the beaches of Hervey Bay are a great place to do it.

We love walking along the beach just about any time of the day and the beach is a great place to sit and watch the sun come up or go down.

While you won't see whales off these beaches - the whales rarely come this far into the bay - you will often see dolphins swimming within metres of the beach and occasionally you will spot a dugong swimming down around Shelly Beach.
