Shelly Beach is another part of the beach along Hervey Bay that is popular with families and sees plenty of swimmers even in the middle of winter.
From this spot we've sometimes seen a dugong swimming within a few metres of the beach even though humans have been swimming in the water at the same time.
On the other side of the road that parallels the beach there are a number of holiday apartment blocks and motels. The views from many of the units give a sweeping view out over Hervey Bay but none of the blocks are tall enough to overshadow the beach.
